From blighted motels to celebrity chef-owned restaurants, a piece of Biscayne Boulevard is getting made over in a wave of new development. Thanks to new commercial investment, 27 blocks of Biscayne between Northeast 50th and 77th Streets in the MiMo/Biscayne Boulevard Historic District, is receiving a low-key but stylish makeover.
Newcomers include the 50 Eggs restaurant group headquarters and neighborhood hotspot the Vagabond Motel. Celebrity chef Norman Van Aken plans to open a cooking school in the old Royal Motel. Other entrants include a new restaurant and a new coffee shop. A corner liquor store is set to reopen as an after school center. Offices and condos are also coming. It is reported that a developer plans a mixed-use project with 90 units and developer Avra Jain is renovating a four-story building in Class A office space.
